The Dream Began in a One Room Schoolhouse

rodeo

The day the old farm couple who ran the local museum in my small town invited me to “play school” is one I will always remember. The curators thought that I would enjoy joining their granddaughters for a day of learning in the old one room schoolhouse on the museum property! I vividly remember the joy on the girls’ faces when they saw me riding up on horseback for our first day of school. It was the moment that I stood behind the podium teaching my first lesson in that dusty, little schoolhouse where my story really begins. I remember closing my eyes and imagining how my childhood hero, Laura Ingalls Wilder, must have felt and that was the moment I became a teacher in both my mind, and in my heart.

A Small-Town Girl with BIG Dreams

Life’s moments not only lead us towards our dreams, but serendipitously set our destiny in motion. As a small-town girl, there were always opportunities to get involved. In both volleyball and softball, my team voted me “most inspirational” year after year because I am most happy in those moments where I am inspiring others! Throughout high school and into college, I continued bringing people together through clubs, after school programs, summer camp experiences, youth programs and a variety of other things to connect people within a community where they felt like they belonged to something bigger than themselves. These communities often involved working with children

Dedicated to Nurturing the Infinite Brilliance of Gifted Students

I was the first person in my family to graduate from college and the ink was barely dry on my teaching certificate when I replaced a beloved K-5 gifted teacher who resigned in the district where I was student teaching. On my first day of school, I realized that I not only needed to understand my students, but to also learn how to become the teacher they desperately needed me to be. Whitworth University had a nationally recognized master’s program dedicated to teaching gifted students where I enrolled immediately and graduated with an insatiable passion to nurture the infinite brilliance within gifted students!

Creating One of the First Online Gifted Program in The US

Combining both passion and knowledge with my pioneering spirit, I left the brick-and-mortar classroom in 2002 and accepted a job in an online academy. Just to put this leap of faith into perspective, YouTube and Facebook did not yet exist and the idea of online education was in its infancy. It was my first two weeks on the job, and I pitched the idea to my school leader to create one of America’s very first online gifted programs. I have always known that for these future geniuses to reach their infinite potential, they need special attention early in their academic careers. Through my strong work ethic and grittiness, I created a virtual gifted program that attracted the attention of leaders across the United States because it was the first of its kind grounded in best practices in both gifted and online education. This experience sparked my desire to take gifted education to the next level and continue to innovate in ways that supported gifted children using emerging technologies.

Earning My Doctorate Was an Important Season of Learning

The next step in my journey was pursuing my doctorate surrounded with like-minded individuals who came together to share ideas, experiences, insights, and resources with one another. My passion and curiosity propelled my research on supporting gifted children in an online environment using best practices from both servant leadership and gifted education. As an educational consultant, I traveled to schools around the Pacific Northwest training teachers and left the classroom to spend several years training teachers and school leaders.

My Happiest Moments are Enjoying a Cup of Tea with Parents

I am grateful for the opportunity to continue my work in this field, and my happiest moments are spent enjoying a cup of tea with parents and discussing the unique needs of their gifted children. I believe that it is important for gifted parents to hire a gifted coach for their family in order to ensure that their child’s unique potential is nurtured and reached.

It would be an honor to walk alongside you in this journey

As a parent of a gifted child, you want to ensure that your child reaches their full potential and becomes the best version of themselves. However, navigating the unique challenges and opportunities that come with raising a gifted child can be overwhelming and difficult to manage alone. That’s where a gifted coach comes in. A gifted coach has the expertise and experience to help your child understand their giftedness, set meaningful goals, and develop strategies to achieve them. A coach can also provide support to you as a parent, to help you understand how to best support your child.

With a coach, your child will have access to individualized attention and guidance tailored to their unique needs and abilities. A coach can help your child develop important skills such as self-advocacy, time management, and emotional intelligence, which are crucial for success in school and in life. Additionally, a coach can help your child identify and pursue their passions and navigate the challenges of being a gifted student in a traditional school setting.

Furthermore, a coach can also help your child develop a growth mindset which is the ability to see failure as an opportunity to learn and grow. This is particularly important for gifted children as they often have high expectations placed on them, and may struggle with perfectionism and self-doubt. A coach can provide guidance and support to help your child develop a more resilient mindset, and to learn how to handle failure and setbacks.

Hiring a coach for your gifted child is an investment in their future. A coach can provide the individualized attention and support your child needs to reach their infinite potential and become the best version of themselves. Whether it’s support for academic success, social and emotional development, or personal growth, a coach will be there every step of the way to help your child reach their goals and thrive. I would be honored to walk alongside you in this journey
